WOLFIE S. PIZEM - 1995

Mr. Pizem was educated at Homebush High School and started his career working with his father, Mr. David Pizem, owner of five clothing stores.
At the age pf 27 Mr. Pizem opened his own store, Jackman’s Menswear, and during this period of time held the position as President of the Cronulla Chamber of Commerce.
In 1959 he converted his efforts from the clothing industry to become involved within the restaurant and catering business.
In early 1960 Mr. Pizem formed the Australian Catering Development Council (ADC) together with well-known restaurant and catering business people including Graeme Kerr, Len Evans, Henry Luetzinger (past executive chef of Qantas Airways) and the late Johnny Walker. The aim of this Council was to improve the standards of the restaurant and catering industry by being responsible for the promotion of international tourism until the Australian Tourist Commission was formed.
From 1985 to 1987 he held an appointment as a Commissioner with the Australian Tourist Commission and in 1988 was awarded the Order of Australia for his contribution to the tourism industry.
In 1981 Mr. Pizem was made an Honorary Member of the International Les Clefs d’or which is an international award given only to a limited number of persons.
Restaurant Ownership:
Mr. Pizem opened The Coachmen Restaurant in 1960 which still operates today and is recognized as one of the few remaining restaurants under the same ownership and location in Sydney. Over the past thirty-four years the Coachmen has catered to overseas tourists, many famous overseas identities and local patronage.
In 1970 Mr. Pizem established the Hob Nob Restaurant in Brighton, Melbourne which traded extremely profitably for approximately twenty years.
In 1973 Mr. Pizem established the Fisherman’s Wharf Restaurant, Brighton, Melbourne which he operated profitably for seven years.
At The Rocks, Sydney:
Mr. Pizem’s company, Restaurant of The Rocks, owns and operates three of the largest and most popular restaurants in Australia:

1978 saw the establishment of the Waterfront Restaurant, an 800-seat restaurant which has become one of Sydney’s leading seafood restaurants catering for international patronage.

In 1985 Mr. Pizem established the Italian Village Restaurant, catering for over 650.

Opening in December 1992, Wolfie’s Restaurant and Grill seats 400 people and is a popular venue for local and interstate tourists. Wolfie’s specializes in Australian cuisine.
Recent Awards:
Three of the most prestigious awards received in 1994 relate in particular to the quality of food and presentation:

The Waterfront Restaurant was awarded “The Outstanding Contribution to Tourism (Metropolitan)” for the year April 1993 to March 1994 in the inaugural Restaurant and Catering Association Awards for Excellence.

In 1994 the Waterfront Restaurant received the International Catering Fair’s “Australian Golden Plate” award.

Restaurants of The Rocks (incorporating Waterfront Restaurant, Italian Village and Wolfie’s Restaurant and Grill) was the recipient of an Award of Distinction presented by the New South Wales Tourism Industry Association under the category Tourism Restaurants and Catering Services.
In conclusion, Wolfie Pizem has been involved in the restaurant and catering industry and today employs almost 300 personnel. |
