JANNI KYRITSIS – 2002

Janni Kyritsis long and distinguished career has been hallmarked as the highest and most recognized winner of numerous major Australian food awards.
Janni began his career at Stephanie’s Restaurant in Melbourne where for five years he honed his skills as second chef. The next step in this distinguished career was at Berowra Waters Inn where Janni and the restaurant earned local, national and international acclaim. While at Berowra Waters, Janni received the first ‘Chef of the Year’ Award from the Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Guide. The restaurant continued to earn ‘Three Hats’ Awards until it closed.
The next stop in his career was at Bennelong Restaurant at the Sydney Opera House where Janni was the head chef for two years.
In 1997, Janni opened his own restaurant, the absolutely unique MG Garage. In its first year MG Garage was awarded ‘Best New Restaurant’ and awarded the highest accolade of ‘Three Chef Hats’ by the Sydney Morning Herald. In the following years, the restaurant maintained its ‘Three Hats’ status as well as winning the Australian Gourmet Traveller Award as ‘Restaurant of the Year’ 2000, Restaurant & Catering NSW Award for Excellence ‘Restaurant of the Year’ and Rivetta’s listing MG Garage as one of the top three restaurants in Australia.
To date, Janni has won more than 50 hats and has been featured in many publications, videos and reviews both in Australia and around the world.
